Community Cares for Kids

Community Cares for Kids (CCK) is an all-volunteer benevolent organization that believes
caring individuals in our local community can make the world better for children and families in
need.

Originally an independent 501C3, CCK was founded in 2006 by Dr. Francis J. Collini and his
wife, Susan J. Collini, in Shavertown, Pennsylvania. They rallied their colleagues, friends, family,
and neighbors to help fundraise, manage, and solicit medical supplies and medical personnel to
globally provide surgical care for children born with birth defects such as cleft lip/palate, hand
deformities, club feet, craniomaxillofacial deformities, and deformities arising from burns. CCK
volunteers expanded their mission by fostering local community involvement,
education/mentoring, and civic duty.

Did you know —

  •  As of 2017 CCK performed over 500 surgical operations.
  • CCK did ALL its own fundraising to support its missions, surgery and activities.
  • Yearly, from 2006 to 2017, CCK sent a team of medical staff and non-medical volunteers
into third world countries to provide life-changing corrective surgery to impoverished
    children.
  • The Plastic Surgery Education Foundation and Smile Train also partnered with CCK
    missions.
  • CCK was chosen as one of the top four Medical Mission groups in the world by The
    American Society of Plastic Surgery.
  • CCK mentored local and national students as volunteers during annual missions.

Locally CCK also extended a helping hand —

  • CCK helped to purchase a van to transport local veterans for their medical treatments.
  • CCK donated to Wyoming Valley Children’s Association to help provide physical therapy.
  • CCK donated to Volunteers in Medicine
  • CCK volunteers physically helped flood victims of Irene and Sandy with cleanup,
rebuilding, and collecting clothing and supplies.
  • CCK donated to the victims of the Connecticut elementary school shooting.
  • CCK donated to Dress For Success, helping women get back on their feet.
  • CCK donated to Candy’s Place, helping patients with cancer.
  • CCK volunteers helped feed the homeless during Christmas and Easter seasons at
Camp Orchard Hill in Dallas, PA.
  • CCK offered community service project volunteer hours for local students.
  • CCK donated to underprivileged students at Dallas High School.

With the onset of Covid 19 in 2020, Community Cares For Kids experienced difficulty soliciting,
managing, and fulfilling its mission. CCK volunteers, therefore, agreed to become part of The
Luzerne Foundation. Although CCK will no longer fund and perform international missions,
CCK continues its civic benevolence under The Luzerne Foundation administration.

CCK’s New Mission:
Community Cares For Kids improves the lives of children through surgical intervention and
charitable civic endeavors that impact their development.
